Nine-year-old boy among three kids arrested after alleged crime spree

Two boys, aged 11 and 12, have been charged with stealing offences after an alleged crime spree across Sydney’s northwest in the company of a nine-year-old.

Police allege the series of robberies and assaults began on the afternoon of February 7 when a 37-year-old woman parked her Mitsubishi Lancer at a car park on Rowe Street in Eastwood at 4pm and was allegedly threatened by the three youths with a knife before they left with her car keys.

The three boys then allegedly assaulted a 20-year-old female worker at a fast food outlet on the same street about 7.45pm.

Two weeks later, the 11-year-old boy entered a shop on West Parade and allegedly took an item without paying.

The following day, February 21, that same boy allegedly “became involved in an altercation and assaulted a man by punching him to the face and kicking his legs” at a shopping centre on Herring Rd in North Ryde while he was with the nine-year-old boy.

Police alleged the 12-year-old boy approached a 64-year-old woman at a bus stop on Carlingford Rd in Carlingford about 12pm on February 22.

He is accused of fleeing the scene with a purse from her backpack containing a mobile phone and a small amount of cash.

Two hours later, all three boys allegedly approached a 66-year-old woman sitting in a parked Ford Focus on Dunmore Ave in Carlingford.

The 12-year-old boy allegedly reached through the open driver side window and snatched her key from the vehicle’s ignition.

Police conducting routine patrols stopped the boys on Pennant Hills Road in Carlingford.

All three were arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station however the nine-year-old was released into the care of a relative.

The 11-year-old boy was charged with robbery in company, common assault, shoplifting, affray and stealing from a person at a value less than $2000.

That youth was granted strict conditional bail and is due to face a children’s court on March 1.

His alleged co-offender, 12, is facing two of the same stealing charges. He was refused bail and was due before a children’s court on Tuesday.
